DECLARATION OF ETHICS AND GOOD EDITORIAL PRACTICES IN THE PUBLICATION PROCESS

In order to preserve and promote the integrity of the academic record through practices that reflect the principles of transparency, the INNOVA Research Journal adheres to the code of conduct and good editorial practices of the International Committee for Ethics in Scientific Publication (COPE), which is aimed at editors, authors and reviewers. It also informs that it uses the automatic plagiarism detection and prevention system, TURNITIN, to evaluate the submitted manuscripts.

 

Responsibility and good practices related to authors

Originality: the authors undertake to present unpublished and original works, which do not present fragments of other published articles and assume them as their own and, furthermore, that the article has not been previously published, nor is it in another journal for consideration.

Research data: The authors undertake to guarantee the verifiable veracity of the research data presented in the work.

Multiple or redundant publication: articles that present the same results or with minor changes should not be published in more than one journal. Simultaneous publication is considered an ethically incorrect and reprehensible practice.

Citations and attributions: the authors undertake to correctly attribute the corresponding credits and to respect the citation structure of APA standards in its updated version.

Authorship: the order of participation of the authors will be defined fairly by the participants based on the contribution that each one made. The authors guarantee that those involved have made a scientific and intellectual contribution to the preparation of the document.

Responsibility: The content of the published article is the exclusive responsibility of its author and collaborators. The ideas, opinions and statements raised in the article are not necessarily shared by the Journal.

Withdrawal of an item: When the author considers that there is an important reason for withdrawing the nominated manuscript, he / she will inform the Journal and detail the reasons that lead to the withdrawal. The Journal must issue an official document releasing the manuscript and canceling the transfer of rights signed by the authors.

Confidentiality of personal data: the confidentiality of the information related to the people and organizations that were part of the investigation must be respected, especially if sensitive data was handled.

Conflict of interest: authors must disclose any financial or other conflict of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their work. Authors must disclose the sources of funding from which the research arises.

Double publication: The journal does not allow the author to publish more than one article in the same issue. INNOVA offers the opportunity for a greater number of authors to participate in the journal's publications.

 

Responsibility and good practices related to reviewers

Objectivity: reviewers are committed to giving their judgment in an impartial, critical and guiding manner. In the peer evaluation form, they will deliver their judgment in a respectful and constructive way that allows them to contribute to improvements in the quality of the articles published in the journal.

Respect for time: the reviewer agrees to deliver the evaluation within the established period and under the guidelines established by the journal. Also, you must notify if you cannot comply with the original agreement and / or need an extension of the evaluation period.

Conflict of interest: the reviewer agrees to declare potential conflicts of interest that prevent the review. Conflicts can be personal, financial, intellectual, professional, political, or religious.

Competence: If the reviewer considers that the assigned topic is not his or her expertise or does not feel qualified to make the opinion, he or she must notify the director and decline to continue with the review process.

Confidentiality: Respect the review process and refrain from using information obtained during the peer review process for your own advantage or that of others, or to disadvantage or discredit others.

Responsibility for plagiarism: if the reviewer detects information that has been published in other articles or contributions by authors that are not properly cited, plagiarism or self-plagiarism, he must notify the editor.

 

Responsibility and good practices related to publishers

Publication decision: The editorial body undertakes to select reviewers with vast experience in research on issues pertaining to the journal and who issue their critical judgment on the evaluated content. In addition, it will ensure that aspects of originality, clarity and contribution of the study are met, as well as its relevance to the thematic line of the journal.

Confidentiality: the editorial team undertakes not to disclose the data of the articles and personal data of authors and reviewers.

Honesty: the editorial team will ensure that the opinion is carried out in a rigorous and transparent manner, as specified in the arbitration process. The original forms of the evaluators will be shared and the evaluation will be based on academic merit.

Anonymous evaluation: the editorial team guarantees the anonymity of authors and reviewers in the double-blind review process.

Respect for time: Authors will be kept informed about the status of their article during the review process. The estimated times of each stage will be declared in the description of the arbitration process.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: the editorial team undertakes not to use the contents of the articles received in the journal to incorporate them into their research without the written consent of the author.

INNOVA Research Journal allows its Scientific Committee to publish in the journal a maximum of two times a year. The manuscript submitted to the INNOVA platform will go through the regular arbitration process, where the editorial team guarantees that the article is submitted to the document format review process according to APA standard seventh edition, anti-plagiarism system, double-blind peer review where The anonymity of the reviewers and authors and other regulations established by the journal is guaranteed.

BAD PRACTICES IN PUBLICATION:

INNOVA Research Journal considers the following as bad practices:

Multiple or redundant publication: when the same article is published in different media, it is considered academic bad practice.

Plagiarism: when fragments of the work of other researchers are used, they transcribe, duplicate or rephrase them and consider them as their own ideas.

Manipulation of citations: the excessive use of citations that are not related to the research, or excess of citations related to the journal being applied, unjustified self-citation, the inclusion or exclusion of words that may incur in misinterpretation of a quote.

Falsification of data: when information is altered, included or omitted that may lead to wrong interpretations of the results.

Attribution or exclusion of authorship: when authors who did not make a significant contribution to the research process of the article are included or when credit is not given (excludes) to authors who made important contributions to the study.

Lack of privacy when human beings are involved: when the use of informed consent letters is omitted when conducting research that involves people, especially from vulnerable sectors, or when handling sensitive information. It is also considered bad practice to use the image of third parties without authorization.

 

APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS:

INNOVA journal will assist and resolve arguments or appeals related to non-compliance with any of the practices described in the editorial process that involves the authors, reviewers and the editorial team.

When appeals refer to the non-publication of a document, the arguments will be carefully evaluated without this implying a commitment to publication.

When appeals refer to cases of plagiarism, the journal will use the plagiarism tools available to confirm the case. If this is not enough, you will seek the opinion of an external evaluator.

When appeals refer to the results of the peer review, the author's arguments will be analyzed and if necessary a new reviewer will be asked to define the result.

When appeals refer to the conduct of the members of the journal's editorial team, they will be heard by the members of the scientific committee.

For any of the cases described, the person reporting the complaint must send an email to the journal innova@uide.edu.ec and present their arguments in detail and add the corresponding evidence. 

 

PLAGIARISM DETETCTION POLICY

INNOVA Research Journal seeks that the publications in the journal comply with the principles of originality and quality standards that guarantee its own scientific production. The journal is governed by the principles of transparency and good practices of the International Committee of Ethics in the scientific publication COPE

All manuscripts received by the journal are inspected using the automatic plagiarism detection and prevention system, TURNINITN. This system is in charge of reviewing the evaluated texts and detecting similarities with the bibliographic material available on the internet.

In the event of suspected plagiarism, either because the reviewers or the editorial team itself detects the case, the level of plagiarism will be investigated in depth, following COPE guidelines, such as:

  1. If a large proportion of the text is clearly plagiarized, the author will be contacted in writing indicating the percentage of plagiarism found and leaving in evidence the report that the TURNITIN system generates for such purposes. If the author does not provide explanations of the case, the manuscript will be rejected without the option of returning.
  2. If short sentences of plagiarism are detected, the author will be contacted in writing indicating the cases found and requesting that they reformulate the copied sentences or include direct citations with references in order to continue with the review.
